Short Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Machu Picchu

  • 4:10 a.m.: Pickup from your hotel and transfer to the train station in Ollantaytambo.
  • Expedition train ride: Departure towards Machu Picchu Pueblo, arriving at 7:40 a.m.
  • Ascent to Machu Picchu: Bus ride up to the citadel.
  • 2-hour guided tour in Machu Picchu.
  • Free time: Explore the citadel or visit Machu Picchu Pueblo on your own.
  • 3:20 p.m.: Return train from Machu Picchu Pueblo to Ollantaytambo.
  • Return to Cusco: Bus transfer from Ollantaytambo to Cusco and back to your hotel.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Machu Picchu with Andes Explore Peru

  • The tour begins with Andes Explore Peru picking up travelers from their hotel at approximately 4:10 a.m. From there, we will depart in private transportation towards the Ollantaytambo train station, in a journey of approximately an hour and a half.
  • Once at the station, Andes Explore Peru will assist you in boarding the Expedition train that will take you to Machu Picchu Pueblo, where you will arrive around 7:40 a.m.
  • Upon arrival, a Andes Explore Peru guide will be waiting to accompany you to the bus station and embark on the ascent to the Machu Picchu citadel. With Andes Explore Peru, you will enjoy a two-hour guided tour of the most emblematic points of Machu Picchu, where you will discover the fascinating history and architecture of this unique Inca site.
  • After the guided tour, Andes Explore Peru will give you free time to explore Machu Picchu on your own until noon. You can wander through the citadel and capture more unforgettable moments before taking the bus down to Machu Picchu Pueblo, where you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy additional activities, such as strolling through the town’s streets, relaxing in the thermal baths, or visiting the Manuel Chávez Ballón Museum. These activities are optional and can be done on your own.
  • A key recommendation from Andes Explore Peru is to be at the train station half an hour before departure. Your return train departs at 3:20 p.m., so you should be at the station by 2:00 p.m. The train will take you back to Ollantaytambo, arriving at approximately 5:15 p.m. Upon arrival, Andes Explore Peru staff will coordinate your bus transport to the Wanchaq station in Cusco.
  • Finally, upon arrival in Cusco, a Andes Explore Peru transfer will be waiting to take you back to your hotel, concluding a day full of history, culture, and spectacular landscapes.
